The WinTMC client for Windows PCs allows a user to have a standard Windows based PC (Windows NT/2000/XP) run as a ThinManager Ready Thin Client without the addition of any hardware. Whether the user needs a PC for other tasks or just wants to reuse existing equipment, WinTMC brings Thin Client functionality, managed by ACP's ThinManager software, to the desktop.
Sometimes referred to as a "Fat Client" (because of the underlying operating system), WinTMC provides similar functionality to that of a dedicated Thin Client Terminal. Like all ThinManager Ready clients WinTMC can use failover, Instant Failover, SmartSession, MultiSession, and AppLink, and can be managed remotely through ACP's ThinManager software.
WinTMC is essentially a software Thin Client that is installed on a PC. When the WinTMC client is run it connects to a ThinManager Server, receives its configuration, and then connects to a Windows Terminal Server and launches a session. The session is then displayed in the WinTMC client either as a window or in full screen mode, bringing true terminal server computing to PCs.
But WinTMC is not only a Windows based ThinManager Ready client - it also includes a component that allows authorized users to shadow the PC from within ThinManager. This shadowing will work even when WinTMC isn’t active.
WinTMC requires a special WinTMC connection license and the latest version of ThinManager (version 2.6). The WinTMC licenses can be purchased alone, or as licenses that will allow either a WinTMC connection or a standard Thin Client Terminal connection. The addition of WinTMC expands the standard license offering from ACP as follows:
Existing Terminal Connection Licenses can be upgraded to support WinTMC connections. For customers using ThinManager Enterprise Class licenses, only a WinTMC Connection License is required.
