ACP Thin Clients Eliminate 2:00 AM Phone Calls!

There are few things worse than having your nighttime slumber interrupted by a phone call from the plant. You know that you've got to head back into a beehive of frustration and anguish as you try to restore order to a failing system.

ACP Enabled thin clients and ACP ThinManager were designed to make your life easier by reducing maintenance while increasing control and reliability. The result is a drastic reduction in the dreaded 2:00 AM phone calls. What kind of calls can you expect to eliminate? We have included a few samples below. But we must warn you - if you aren't running ACP Enabled Thin Clients, these questions could keep you up at night...

Call Number One - PC Failure

A PC on the floor has failed. The technician can't get it to boot.

PC Scenario: You arrive at the factory at 3:00 AM and find that the chassis is caked with dust causing overheating and a hard drive failure. You clean the chassis, replace the hard drive, and install the operating system, install the programs and drivers, add the applications, and configure the network. You finish in time to attend your 10:00 AM meeting.

ACP Scenario 1: The thin client never fails because it is an industrial box that can take high temperatures and doesn't have a hard drive to crash. You never receive a call.

ACP Scenario 2: A forklift driver hits the thin client while moving some scaffolding. The technician on duty gets a replacement from the Parts Department and replaces the thin client. All he has to do is select the former thin client's name and the new unit is configured and running like before. You never receive a call.

Call Number Two - Server Failure

One of the servers that is used in production has failed, causing a loss of data integrity.

PC Scenario: You arrive at the factory at 3:00AM and begin restoring the server and backing up data. At 6:00 AM you return home for a nap and a shower.

ACP Scenario: The server fails; the thin client detects the failure and automatically switches to the backup server. The operators don't even notice and you don't get a call. You fix the errant server in the morning during your regular hours.

Call Number Three - Virus Infection

During a momentary lull in production, one of the operators found time to install his favorite game. Unfortunately the game also included its author's favorite virus.

PC Scenario: While your servers in the Data Center were protected, you hadn't purchased virus protection for all of the production PCs. The games popularity among the night shift (and the virus's propensity for reproduction) mean that after you take care of the immediate problem and get this particular machine running (hopefully before sunrise), you spend the next few sleepless nights chasing it from PC to PC - and repairing whatever damage it does along the way.

ACP Scenario 1: Because ACP Thin Clients provide full PC functionality without the vulnerabilities of a local hard drive, local floppy or CD ROM drive, the operator is forced to simply play games on his PlayStation. You never receive a call.

ACP Scenario 2: The operator finds he can download the game over the Internet, but because all of the programs displayed on his Thin Client are actually running on the servers (with updated virus protection programs) the problem is squashed by Peter Norton before it makes its way on the network. You never receive a call.

People talk about how much thin clients save in maintenance, how its total cost of ownership is lower than PCs, and how easy it is to get thin clients running and under control. The bottom line, though, is that ACP Thin Clients let you sleep at night - how many products can make that type of claim and back it up?
