Wizard Overview

ACP ThinManager (except version 2.3.1) uses Wizards to assist and guide the configuration process. The wizards step through the configuration process to simplify the choices. The wizards also allow the ThinManager Servers and Terminal Servers to be defined so that they can be identified by names instead of their IP addresses, even without DNS.

The Configuration Wizard can be launched by either:

  • Selecting a Group or Terminal in the ThinManager tree, right-clicking on the icon, and selecting the Modify option.
  • Double clicking on the Group or Terminal icon in the ThinManager tree.

The Configuration Wizard is also used to create and configure new Groups and Terminals. The Terminal Creation Wizard, as it is called when configuring the initial creation, can be launched by either:

  • Selecting a ThinManager Server in the ThinManager tree and selecting Edit>Add Terminal from the menu bar.
  • Selecting a ThinManager Server in the ThinManager tree, right-clicking on the ThinManager Server icon, and selecting the Add Terminal option.
  • Selecting a Group in the ThinManager tree, right-clicking on the Group icon, and selecting the Add Terminal option. This puts the terminal in that group.
Note: Selecting Add Group instead of Add Terminal will add a Group instead of a Terminal.

The main Configuration Wizard shows parameters a page at a time to assist in decisions. During the configuration, three other wizards can be launched, the ThinManager List Wizard, the Terminal Server List Wizard, and the Terminal Server Group List Wizard. These allow you to use computer names instead of IP address for identification to simplify administration and management, even without using a Domain Name Server.

ThinManager Servers are defined in the ThinManager Server List Wizard, terminal servers in the Terminal Server List Wizard, and Terminal Server Groups in the Terminal Server Group Wizard. These wizards associate the IP address to a name for use in the Group or Terminal Configuration Wizard. Additionally, there is a DNS Wizard to help configure the DNS settings.

There are Tech Notes for the ThinManager Server List Wizard, the Terminal Server List Wizard, Terminal Server Group Wizard, and the DNS Wizard that can be reached by clicking the link.

The previous configuration method, now called the Classic Mode, was retired in ThinManager 3.0.
