Printing with ACP Enabled Thin Clients

There are two ways to print from a ThinManager Ready Thin Client, with the Local Print Module or by installing the printer through Windows. Of the two, the local Print Module is easier.

Local Print Module - ACP Method
Windows Printer Installation - Microsoft Method

Local Print Module

The Local Print Module simplifies printing through the parallel port on ThinManager Ready thin clients.

There are three steps:

  1. Install the print driver on the terminal servers that the client will connect to.
  2. Add the Local Print Module to the ThinManager Ready thin client.
  3. Configure the Print Driver Name parameter in the module to contain the print driver's name.

Windows Printer Installation - Microsoft Method

Before the development of the Local Printer Module, ThinManager Ready Thin Clients could have printers configured through Windows. The printer is installed by running the Add Printer Wizard from the client. Once it is installed, other clients and computers can print to it by running the Add Printer Wizard and selecting the client printer.

Note: A thin client printer requires that print commands be sent through a Windows-based program. Simply sending data to the LPT1 port will send the data to the terminal server LPT1 port since the session is actually running on the terminal server.

Begin the printer installation by attaching the printer to a parallel port on an ACP Enabled thin client.

From the client session, select the Start>Settings>Printers>Add Printer to launch the Add Printer Wizard.
