ThinManager 3.1 Features

MultiMonitor Enhancements

ThinManager 3.1 enhances ACP's new MultiMonitor module by increasing the number of monitors supported on each Thin Client to five and by adding a screen layout wizard. This makes it possible to locate (visually) each of the Thin Client monitors at any spot within the virtual space. ThinManager 3.1 will even allow users to combine spanning and multiple sessions on a single Thin Client. For instance, two adjacent monitors might be used to span a single session while three other monitors are each used to display sessions running on other servers.

Watchdog Feature Added to ActiveX Control

The 3.1 version of the TermMon ActiveX Control contains a Watchdog Feature. Once enabled by the application and initialized with a delay time (in seconds), the Watchdog timer starts to count down. If the timer reaches zero without being reset by the application, the terminal server session running the application will be reset. This will cause a new session to be established and a new instance of the application to be run.

All ThinManager Ready Thin Clients have been able to detect a locked up server since the first versions of ThinManager, but until now there was no way to detect problems with a user session. This ActiveX solves the problem of a functioning server but a failed session by leaving the server running and just restarting the session.

Reports

ThinManager 3.1 adds reporting features. With these reports administrators can generate customizable HTML pages that show data such as uptimes for all Thin Clients, system IP addresses, user login/logout history, etc. These reports can include all Thin Clients and can be viewed directly from within ThinManager or be scheduled to run daily (or weekly) and saved for later review.

Reset Sessions

While administrators have been able to reset Thin Clients for some time, ThinManager 3.1 contains new commands to disconnect or reset a Terminal Server session as well. This can be used to manually correct situations where a user session has gone off into the weeds if the application is not using the ActiveX utility above.

These are highlights of the features we have running right now - more are planned and may make it into 3.1. Look for a final feature list as we get closer to the release date.
